Model-turned-actor Upen Patel makes an unlikely entrepreneur. But that’s precisely the role he has assumed by starting a model management agency for his stepsister Erica. “There is a very Gujarati business side to me.

I was planning this venture for almost a year. I kept quiet because I didn’t want someone to steal the idea. I’m trying to settle down my family members,” Upen, who debuted with “36 China Town”, told IANS.

“I also see an urgent need for more professionalism and integrity in modelling agencies. Modelling agencies in Mumbai exploit the models financially and emotionally. Actor Upen Patel is upset that director Ashwini Dheer ignored him at the music launch of the upcoming comedy One Two Three .

Though Upen has just a marginal role in the film, he and Ashwini could not see eye-to-eye on many issues while shooting the film. There were constant arguments between Upen and Ashwini on the sets.

Angry over shoddy job done by his costume designers, actor Upen Patel tore up the shirt he was given to wear for a scene.

From the start, Upen has not been happy with the two designers responsible for his costumes in Ganesh Acharya’s comedy film Money Hai Toh Honey Hai .

According to Upen, the designer duo never took his character into consideration while choosing the costumes during the shooting schedule in Mauritius. And they would also suggest him to go shirtless for some scenes just for the heck of it.

Upen alleges that on top of it the designers would pick up T-Shirts and Jeans from roadside stalls and bring the dresses to him to choose from.

One day, when Upen was presented with such a costume, he lost his cool and tore it up.

The matter was eventually taken to producer Kumar Mangat who decided to call in a new designer exclusively for Upen.

The actor says he can now heave a sigh of relief and concentrate on his work.

Upen Patel is getting desperate by the day in his efforts to discard his heavy British accent.

Seems he’s made Manoj Bajpai his Guru to learn Hindi and has been requesting him to correct his pronunciation and diction.

The two got along like a house on fire during the shoot of Money Hai To Honey Hai.

Patel has even christened Bajpai Guru. And now, whenever Patel is in town, he heads straight to Bajpai’s pad every evenings for lessons in Hindi that go on forever.. much to Mrs Bajpai’s annoyance. Continue reading ‘Upen Patel is ‘minding’ his language’
