Bollywood stars shooting in South Africa
17 Comments Published by Upen Patel July 31st, 2006 in NewsBollywood actors Bobby Deol, Celina Jaitley and Upen Patel are currently shooting in South Africa’s commercial capital for a major portion of the film “Shakalaka Boom Boom”.
Suneel Darshan, who has shot in the country for a record six films, is directing the film.
Bobby Deol, however, preferred to talk about family film “Apne”. His eyes lit up and he broke from his normal soft-spoken speech into passionate emotional tones when discussing “Apne”, in which he will be seen together for the first time with his father Dharmendra.
“‘Apne’ is about children not understanding their father’s point of view, arguing that they want to live a different kind of 1ife to that which he tries to raise them with. A father has dreams which he could not fulfil and he wants to see them fulfilled through his son’s eyes, so it’s basically about that,” Bobby told IANS.
The film also has Bobby’s elder brother Sunny Deol, with whom he shared screen space for the first time in their home production “Dillagi”. The actor was at a loss for words when asked about Sunny.
He said: “I’m a very family-oriented man and I get very emotional when I am far away from home. I miss home because I miss my family. My brother is one of the nicest people in my life. I’ll do anything for him and he’ll do anything for me.”
Surprisingly, Bobby did not want to talk much about his success or otherwise in the film industry.
“My whole family is like that – we do not believe in talking about ourselves.” Continue reading ‘Bollywood stars shooting in South Africa’
U pen Patel’s sudden movie star status with his role as a suave playboy in the recent hit “36 China Town” has not gone to his head, unlike the over-confident character he played in the film.
“I’m not someone who is a born actor. I think I just got very lucky with a great launch and fabulous directors in Abbas Mastan in ‘36 China Town’,” Upen told IANS.
“I also got a fantastic song by Himesh Reshammiya. So I think the whole combination really helped me and I really think I owe them everything. There’s still so much to learn,” Upen said in a strong British accent, having grown up and studied mainly in Britain, although he was born in India.
Conceding that this (his accent) was one of the factors that was against him in entering the Hindi film industry, the former model said: “I’m a not a star son and coming from London, not having a strong hold on the (Hindi) language also counted against me. But I think I was very successful as a model for four years which gave me a stepping stone into Bollywood, with Subash Ghai recognising me and giving me a chance.” Continue reading ‘Upen Patel retains his humility’
Upen Patel makes the same moves as Hrithik Roshan
2 Comments Published by Upen Patel July 29th, 2006 in NewsFilm maker Suneel Darshan is leaving no stone unturned to project Upen very stylishly in ‘Shakalaka Boom Boom’ in which the young actor plays the role of a style icon. In fact Darshan has zeroed on him because he thinks Upen is a fantastic dancer with the right body language. This is not all as he also compares him with none other then Hrithik Roshan.
Also, after seeing the euphoria generated by the ‘Ashique’ Boy in ‘36 China Town’, Suneel has signed on the music sensation Himesh Reshammiya to repeat the same magic. He has also given Upen a free hand to style his own look which would be very stylish and international. Manish Malhotra is the man who would be helping Upen in this endeavor of his!
Saya Upen, “It’s a stylish character in a stylish film. I am very pleased with the look and I am sure this film will rock!” Definitely so, with Himesh’s groovy tunes and Upen’s stylish dance movements, we have another chart buster in the making!!!
A fter making a successful debut in “36 China Town”, Upen Patel is gearing up for the shooting of Suneel Darshan’s “Shakalaka Boom” with Bobby Deol and Celina Jaitley in South Africa.
Darshan has given him a free hand to style his own look for the film and Upen has decided to sport a short crop, which is international and hip, reports Bollywood Trade.
“It is a stylish film – I am very pleased with the look in ‘Shakalaka Boom’. It is very international. My fans have certain expectation from me and I am sure they will not be disappointed. I am sure the film will rock,” said Upen.
Upen’s clothes will be designed by Bollywood’s ace designer Manish Malhotra who is putting the whole look together.

Heart throb Upen Patel, who is presently in South Africa shooting for Suneel Darshan’s Shakalaka Boom Boom, can’t stop raving about Bobby Deol. Upen Patel plays the role of a rock star in this stylish film. He has just finished his first day of shoot with Bobby and they both are already getting along like a house on fire.
Says Upen, “Bobby is such a genuine guy. You can’t help but like him. He is extremely helpful to me. He has been patiently rehearsing at length with me. In fact he has been giving me pointers on intense scenes. He is completely unselfish as an actor. He is more than willing to let the other person take over if need be. He doesn’t try to hog the frame!”
In fact Upen is also full on praise of Bobby as an actor. “I was in shock…he is such an under-rated actor. I was completely blown over by his intense scenes. Right now I’m suffering from a ‘Bobby complex’. He is so talented and yet he hates showing off. It’s gonna be a real challenge even if I perform even half of his caliber”, he says with all honesty!

Guess who is turning out to be the rising star, especially after the cash registers jingling with the success of ‘36 China Town’? Upen Patel.
Though he had a good supporting role to play in the whodunit with Akshaye Khanna silently walking away with all the accolades, he seems to be on the right path if one looks at his roles in the number of upcoming projects he is associated with. While there is a lot of buzz around his ‘jodi’ with Bobby Deol in Suneel Darshan’s ‘Shakala Boom Boom’, he has reasons to cheer with many more biggies lined up.
The biggest of them is a film by Subhash Ghai who is looking at repeating him post ‘36 China Town’. Then comes ‘Ashtavinayak’, which has been tasting success in the distribution circles consistently and has been smiling ever since their ‘Golmaal’ hit the marquee. This is not all as ‘Tips’ too has roped for their next venture while Vipul Shah would be shooting with him soon in ‘Namaste London’.
