Upen had a funny experience quite recently when he spent a few days in Ooty while shooting for Raj Kumar Santoshi directed ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ (which features Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif as the main leads). He got quite a few consolation calls from his friends who were wondering how the young man was coping in the serene town of Ooty which was devoid of any nightlife. However, Upen was hardly amused. Reason? He was not missing the nightlife of the city of Mumbai which never sleeps and was instead at peace with himself in the hills of Ooty.

On queried if this was true, Upen was initially reluctant to talk about what had transpired in Ooty, “I don’t wish to make a lot of hullabaloo about where I spend my time and what keeps me busy on an average day or night. Apparently he got a call from an old friend in London, who had a baby and his friend wished Upen was in London with him and his family to celebrate this joyous moment and without blinking an eyelid, Upen flew down to London to surprise his friends. Upen Patel has just returned from a mini schedule of AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI from Ooty. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Ramesh Taurani of TIPS, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead along with Katrina Kaif. However, the surprise package is touted to be Upen Patel who has a special appearance in the film.

Upen Patel, a UK trained software engineer turned supermodel in India turned Bollywood actor personifies humility and amiability. Soft spoken Upen came to Chicago to be part of India Day Parade but a great number of his fans and Chicagoans had not to wait till the Parade day to see him in person.

Britain-born actor Upen Patel had the honor to represent India in Los Angeles. He is one among the luckiest people like Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone who were bestowed with such credit. Upen is the first Bollywood actor to join the parade which will take place on August 10. He is quite elated to get the call from Los Angeles. “I believe Bipasha Basu and other Bollywood queens got the honor earlier. So I’m quite delighted”, quips Upen.

Another moment of glory for Upen is his newly constructed house on Pali Hill in Bandra. He is taking suggestion about designing and decorating his abode from Eric Mutheza, a designer from Dubai via internet. “He never personally came down to look at my place. I gave him design specifications on email and he instructed his assistants in Mumbai to do the needful. But it’s turned out beautifully,” Upen said.
