Upen learns Hindi, Bajpai learns Thoda seekho, thoda sikhao

That’s the deal that actors Upen Patel and Manoj Bajpai have struck, on the sets of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. LiFE@WORK tells you out why the kuch-lo-kuch-do deal works well in the professional world

All professionals, even the most competitive ones, have to trade secrets at some point in their professional lives. That’s how they survive the rat-race first by admitting to their weaknesses, and then by seeking help from the ones around, to turn them into strengths.

No good comes from staying put in your cubicle, struggling to get better at skills that are out of your grasp, and predicaments even Google can’t rescue you from! Look around your workstation, and you will see coaches, guides and mentors, not colleagues. Sharing skills, knowledge and ideas can only enrich your experience. The people to your right, agree.

Juhi Parmar,
TV actor,
“I learnt how to cry!”
My co-star, Rita Bhaduri, who never uses glycerine taught me how to get under the skin of the character, and truly feel for the woman I was playing. Now, I can fake-cry minutes before any shot, and snap back, once the shot is over, thanks to co-actor, Rita’s vishesh tipni!
I am calmer too: Working with Hussain Kuwajerwala, for six years, has taught me to accept things I can’t change. I am also less “hyper” now.

Khalied learnt to deal with numbers, Rajiv learnt to network
Rajiv Tandon and Khalied Khan, 20-something event organisers of Plan B Entertainment, have shared a cordial work relationship for 3 years now. “Initially, our natural skill sets led us to decide who would handle various aspects of work,” explains Rajiv. “I was good with numbers and financial dealings, Khalied was great with networking and people skills,” he adds.

But over time, the duo found a way to enhance each other’s job profile, by tweaking each other’s weaknesses. “Khalied has brushed up my people skills. Also, he is a very organised person. Thanks to him, I now maintain a systematic record of all my pending tasks and appointments,” says Rajiv.

As a fair exchange, Rajiv taught Khalied the basic functioning of a business model, how to negotiate better deals, and how to use computer programmes to maintain financial records.
